KEEPING AMERICANS SAFE?

Bullshit! The president, Vice President, and members of Congress do not swear an oath to keep Americans safe, though they often talk about that. Rather the oath is to preserve and defend the American Constitution.

Actions like this do neither. How is brutalizing peaceful, non-violent Americans “protecting” Americans or “keeping them safe”? How can these brutal acts be construed except as an effort to destroy Americans’ Constitutional rights and thus the Constitution?

What we see in incidents like these is an attempt to brutalize and intimidate those representing 99% of Americans by indirect but obvious agents of the exclusive and often greedy 1%. What we see is oligarchy attempting to trample and destroy democracy.

Sorry for hiatus. I was in the hospital for about a week, and I’m just now getting back to quotidian reality.

from Dependable Renegade:

“I was standing in the middle of the crowd when the police started moving in,” she says. “I was screaming, ‘I am pregnant, I am pregnant. Let me through. I am trying to get out.’”

At that point, a Seattle police officer lifted his foot and it hit her in the stomach, and another officer pushed his bicycle into the crowd, again hitting Fox in the stomach. “Right before I turned, both cops lifted their pepper spray and sprayed me. My eyes puffed up and my eyes swelled shut,” she says.

She was fine for a couple days, until she started feeling sick.

Jennifer went to the doctor and found out her baby had no heartbeat. “They said the damage was from the kick and that the pepper spray got to it [the fetus], too.”

Is the New York Times Embedded With the NYPD?
Analyzing the NY Times’ own reporting (and access), Yves Smith is suggesting the answer is yes.

Update Below.

Note how the guy at the beginning says personal property would be taken to a sanitation garage where it could be retrieved? He was lying his ass off! The property was put in garbage trucks and disposed of like garbage.

That includes the 5000 volume library. Can there be any greater symbol of assault of the rich and powerful on basic democracy?

Next post features KO’s terrific commentary on what you’re watching.

Bloomberg’s Bibliocide? Update on Confiscated “People’s Library” Books

The OWS People’s Library was confiscated during the Tuesday night raiid, angering the public who rightly were horrified by images of books–particularly a lovingly-curated collection of donated and crowdsourced books–being destroyed.

The Mayor’s Office, sensing this PR disaster, tweeted this morning that supplies had been recovered, including the library.

But when protesters returned, they were disgusted, finding trashed books, ruined laptops and much missing:

One of our librarians Zach came up with a partial list of what was taken (see below) and it’s looking like only a few boxes of books and our (destroyed) laptops and one chair were at Sanitation. Our people on the ground report that “A lot is destroyed . . . more may (or may not) be coming out of their giant trashpile at back of building.” But it’s obvious to me that by recklessly throwing the contents of the park into dumpsters, the NYPD and DSNY working under Bloomberg’s orders destroyed what we built. And that their claim that the library was “safely stored” was a lie.

A few hours later, it seemed like less than half the library was salvaged, much in awful condition.
