Thanks for the suggestion! I knew of James Bamford from seeing him on DemocracyNow. I had one credit available on Audible.com, but I couldn't find Puzzle. Instead I got The Shadow Factory, and I've just begun listening to it.

The saga of Faith Church and Paul Suedmeyer will be remembered by former parishioners, Faith Church Officers, the Southeast Association and the Wisconsin Conference. All of the above were ‘fooled’ by a professional who exhibited the personality of a narcissist. One to be so diagnosed must have five or more of the following characteristics (1) He/she will have a grandiose sense of self-imporatance, one who exaggerates achievements and talents and expects to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements. (2) Is preoccupied with fantasies of unlimited, power,brilliance, beauty or ideal love. (3) Believes that he/she is ‘special ‘ and unique and can only be understood by, or should associate with, other special or high status people (or institutions). (4) Requires excessive admiration. (5) Has a very strong sense of entitlement, e.g. unreasonable expectations of especially favorable treatment oar automatic compliance.(5) Is exploitative of others, e.g.takes advantage of others to achieve his / her own ends. (6) Lacks empathy. e.g. is unwilling to reorganize or identify with the feelings and needs of others. (7) Is often envious of others, or believes that others are envious of him/her.(8) Regularly shows arrogant, haughty behaviors or attitudes.
This writer witnessed more than the ‘minimum five’ characteristic traits in Paul Suedmeyer. The the president shared his concerns about Paul Suedmeyer (in detail) with members of the Church Council and Spiritual Council prior to the time that was documented by R. Heiden (above). But just as the Association Committee on Church and Ministry and the Wisconsin Conference were unable to grasp the gravity of the situation, so were the official church bodies.
In ‘Calling” Paul Suedmeyer to Faith Church, he had the unanimous vote of the Search Committee, and only one (1) dissenting vote by the congregation. In summary, everyone with whom Paul Suedmeyer came in contact….were fooled! All were fooled by a PROFESSIONAL!!!
